LOVEFiLM ANNOUNCED AS OFFICIAL MEDIA PARTNER OF 56th BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL -
Film fans across the UK are gearing up for a 12 day celebration of cinema as the 56th BFI London Film Festival prepares to throw open its doors next month (10th – 21st October).
LOVEFiLM has been announced as an official media partner for the Festival again this year and the event’s organisers have taken inspiration from the fact that film fans choose what to watch based on emotion to help them redesign the Festival programme.
Organisers will cluster the programme around key themes of Love, Debate, Dare, Laugh, Thrill, Cult, Journey, Sonic and Family for the first time. The newly designed Festival will resonate with LOVEFiLM’s members in particular as the movie subscription service also curates its vast catalogue of more than 70,000 films in a similar way.
The 56th annual festival also marks six years of the successful partnership between LOVEFiLM – Europe’s largest subscription service, streaming movies and TV episodes over the internet and sending DVDs by post – and the BFI.
As in previous years LOVEFiLM will bring all the glamour and excitement of the 12 day event to fans. The movie subscription service will kick off a full programme of activity on 10th October with video diaries, exclusive access to talent and reviews of all the major films showing.
Fans will be offered the chance to win tickets to exclusive screenings, and can get involved via LOVEFiLM’s interactive blog site, where they will be encouraged to discuss this year’s festival line-up.
The LOVEFiLM editorial team (@LOVEFiLM) will be blogging and tweeting live from the festival, bringing followers all the latest news and film reviews, plus interviews with actors and directors. All the content will be housed on LOVEFiLM’s dedicated London Film Festival blog as well as being included in the weekly newsletter which is received by more than a million members.
LOVEFiLM Editor Helen Cowley said: “We feel hugely proud to be playing such a key part in Europe’s largest film festival again this year. We love the new way the festival is being curated – different films inspired by ‘themes’ – an approach to film that we know resonates well with our LOVEFiLM members. Our partnership with the BFI and the Festival mean we can bring all the latest news, reviews and film chat from this extravaganza, directly to fans, as it happens.”
BFI’s Head of Exhibition and Festival Director, Clare Stewart added: “One of the new approaches we’re taking to this year’s Festival programme is organising it based on the fact that viewers tend to select films by emotion and what they hope to experience when they watch. We want to appeal to a range of responses and emotions but also to be able to present the incredible range of films on offer. Emotions like ‘love’, ‘thrill’ and ‘dare’ motivate audiences’ choices and help them decide what to pick. We hope this new approach will give the festival a different, more playful, identity.”
