The Ultimate Villain can change his appearance, has mechanic tentacles and wears terrifying face paint to hide the scars on his face according to film fans.

To mark the release of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, LOVEFiLM – Europe’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the Internet and sending DVDs by post – asked 3,500 film fans to identify what makes The Ultimate Villain by voting for the best headgear, outfit, accessories and superpowers from villains featured on the big screen. Using the results LOVEFiLM worked with a comic book artist to bring this devious anti-hero to life at http://www.lovefilm.com/revealvillain.

The most evil of enemies wears frightening face paint akin to Batman’s arch nemesis The Joker (44 per cent), along with a leather mask with lifeless eyes similar to Hellboy’s antagonist Kroenen (13 per cent). The Dark Knight’s deranged enemy’s fashion sense is also apparent in The Ultimate Villain with his eccentric suit (39 per cent) fusing itself with an alien symbiote as donned by Spider-Man’s extraterrestrial foe, Venom (20 per cent), to create a truly unique and menacing outfit.

As if defending himself with mechanical tentacles as used by another of the web-slinger’s enemies, Doctor Octopus (21 per cent), was not enough, The Ultimate Villain can also change his appearance at will, just like the X-Men’s adversary Mystique (25 per cent). Fellow X-Men villain and metal-bender Magneto and his powers of magnetism also proved to be a popular choice of superpower claiming a fifth of the vote (19 per cent).

Research by LOVEFiLM also revealed the characteristics of The Ultimate Superhero. The ideal crusader would don the mask of vigilante Watchmen member Rorschach to safeguard his identity (27 per cent), protect his torso with Batman’s rubber suit (27 per cent) and fend off foes with Wolverine’s metal claws (38 per cent) – tools which will certainly come in useful when facing off against The Ultimate Villain. Iron Man’s mechanical suit narrowly missed out on the top spot to Gotham’s bat-like protector with 20 per cent of the vote.

The Ultimate Superhero would also be kitted out with Batman’s super-fast, state-of-the-art Batmobile (29 per cent) as well as the Dark Knight’s utility belt (17 per cent).

Helen Cowley, Editor of LOVEFiLM, commented:
“With so many great superhero films out this summer we wanted to find out what film fans thought would make the ultimate enemy. Any caped crusader would have their hands full if they came face to face with The Ultimate Villain. Even The Ultimate Superhero would struggle to fend off this foe whose powers and accessories make for a very potent mix of weaponry!”

Comic artist, Jack Lawrence, commented:
“Bringing The Ultimate Villain to life, a character who has been created by film fans as the best of the best, was an incredible experience. The end result is one very dangerous and menacing adversary.”

Film fans can watch all of their favourite superhuman face-offs with LOVEFiLM’s huge catalogue of films available on DVD, Blu-ray or to stream instantly via LOVEFiLM Instant for as little as £4.99 per month.
