The Ultimate Superhero is telepathic, drives a high-tech car of the future, wields metal claws and wears a mask which changes based on his emotions according to film fans.
To mark the release of latest comic book adaptation Captain America: The First Avenger, LOVEFiLM – Europe’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the Internet and sending DVDs by post – asked 3,000 film fans to identify what makes The Ultimate Superhero.
The ideal crusader would don the mask of vigilante Watchmen member Rorschach to safeguard his identity (27 per cent), protect his torso with Batman’s rubber suit (27 per cent) and fend off foes with Wolverine’s metal claws (38 per cent), a must-have for fighting the most dangerous villains. Iron Man’s mechanical suit also proved a popular choice claiming a fifth of the vote, narrowly missing out on the top spot to Gotham’s bat-like protector.
Ensuring they are the best of the best, The Ultimate Superhero would be kitted out with Batman’s super-fast, state-of-the-art Batmobile (29 per cent) as well as the Dark Knight’s utility belt (17 per cent).
To celebrate The Ultimate Superhero, LOVEFiLM has worked with a comic book artist to immortalise the nation’s ideal caped crusader at www.LOVEFiLM.com/theultimatesuperhero.
What really sets superheroes apart from the average Joe is their super-human powers. Comic artist, Jack Lawrence, commented:
“Having worked with comic books for most of my career and naturally being a huge fan of superhero films, a few of the results really surprised me. Of course we all wish we had the claws of Wolverine or cruised along in the Batmobile, but I really expected Superman and Spiderman’s powers to feature higher up the list.
“Working with LOVEFiLM to create The Ultimate Superhero was a lot of fun. As soon as the results were in I could see him in my head and I just started drawing. I am really pleased with the end result and hope all comic and film fans are too.”
Helen Cowley, Editor of LOVEFiLM, commented:
“With comic book heroes now a popular part of modern culture and film we jumped at the opportunity to create The Ultimate Superhero. A few of the results are quite surprising, but it is clear that Batman wins in the style department with his outfit, mask, utility belt and car all coming out on top.
“LOVEFiLM lets film fans enjoy all their favourite superhero movies with over 70,000 DVD titles and the ultimate instant Watch Online service.”
