THE MOST AMBITIOUS UK SCREENING EVER

LOVEFiLM has partnered with Momentum Pictures to preview Catfish exclusively over the internet and in 40 cinemas across the UK – giving 250 members the ability to watch the highly acclaimed documentary in the comfort of their own homes via LOVEFiLM.com.

Helped by the UK Film Council the event sees LOVEFiLM, the UK’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the Internet and sending DVDs by post, host one of LOVEFiLM’s most innovative events to date.

Catfish will be streamed on LOVEFiLM.com and screened simultaneously across 40 cinemas in the UK on Tuesday 14th December at 6.30pm ahead of its UK cinema release on Friday 17th December.

An interactive Q&A with the filmmakers will take place after the event giving the audience a chance to quiz the creators behind one of the most buzzed-about films at this year’s Sundance Festival via webchat and a monitored Twitter stream.

LOVEFiLM members will be given an exclusive two-week rental window to rent Catfish on DVD from 27th December.

Catfish centers on a riveting mystery that is a product of our times, where social networking, mobile devices, and electronic communication so often replace face-to-face personal contact, Henry Joost, Nev Schulman and Ariel Schulman’s compassionate documentary is a remarkable and powerful story of a discovery set within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

A bespoke website (www.lovefilm.com/catfish) will host film content during the run-up to the event including a sneak preview of the Catfish trailer and  an integrated Facebook comments wall designed to engage members in the ‘Facebook Changed My Life…’ debate. Offline activity includes a run of 400,000 Catfish branded rental envelopes.

The event follows in the wake of an agreement with Momentum Pictures giving LOVEFiLM exclusive rights to top titles such as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo to further boost the hybrid service’s Watch Online content. The partnership brings movies directly to households across UK which can be instantly streamed on the PC, the PlayStation®3 or direct to internet-enabled TV.

Helen Cowley, Editor at LOVEFiLM said: “It is our most ambitious event yet. We are bringing a great new documentary directly to our members’ front rooms. Providing them with an innovative new way to participate in our live interactive webchat and quizzing some of the film industry’s hottest talent. This screening marks the expansion of our relationship with Momentum.’

Xavier Marchand, Managing Director at Momentum Pictures said: “What better platform to launch a movie that unravels the dark mysteries of Facebook than a multi-tiered online and offline release – the biggest exclusive premiere we have entered into with LOVEFiLM. It gives us the opportunity to make our latest releases easily accessible to film-lovers across the UK.”
