TANDRIDGE NAMED AS HOUSEWIFE CAPITAL OF THE UK
Tandridge, Surrey, has been revealed as the area with the highest concentration of housewives in the UK*.
To mark the launch of seven seasons of the hugely popular US series Desperate Housewives on LOVEFiLM Instant’s ABC TV on Demand service, LOVEFiLM has identified Tandridge as home to the most housewives in the UK.
With ladies who look after their homes and families full time accounting for over 64% of the area’s overall population, Tandridge tops the list of ‘Housewife Hotspots’ across the country. The leafy location in East Surrey boasts a higher percentage of housewives than Gloucestershire’s Forest of Dean and Merton, Greater London, which fall into second and third place respectively in the list.
The top ten is dominated by areas in the south of the country with districts in Surrey, Kent and Greater London making multiple appearances.
Claiming 17th place, Pendle in Lancashire is the first area from the north of the country to feature in the list. The area, close to Burnley and Preston, is one of only two northern entries in the top 25, with North East Derbyshire following close behind in 21st place.
Helen Cowley, Editor of LOVEFiLM commented:
“We think it is wonderful that Tandridge has been crowned the housewife capital of the UK and wanted to recognise their dedication by celebrating their status as the top ‘housewife hotspot’.
“Our study shows that there are significantly more housewives in the south and just a couple of cities in the top 25 representing the north of the UK.”
The top ten Housewife Hotspots across the UK are as follows:
1. Tandridge
2. Forest of Dean
3. Merton
4. Swale
5. Teignbridge
6. St Albans
7. Reigate and Banstead
8. Hounslow
