LOVEFiLM, Europe’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the Internet and sending DVDs by post, is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick James as its new Digital Technical Development Director.

Nick will be responsible for the technical development of LOVEFiLM’s Digital business and will be reporting to Group Digital Officer Lesley Mackenzie. He will work alongside Mackenzie on the technical co-ordination of new device platforms, building technology partnerships and further developing back office technical infrastructure.

Nick joins LOVEFiLM from twocashew, a media consultancy responsible for the design and deployment of video on demand products. As owner of the company, Nick headed up a team responsible for the specification of content management and new TV on demand systems for clients in the UK and Germany.

Prior to this for twelve years, Nick led product development at Sky where he was responsible for the concept, design and delivery of Sky’s leading products including Sky+, Sky+ HD, Sky Guide. He also implemented pioneering interactive TV applications such as Sky Text, Sky Sports Active and Sky News Active. He played an instrumental part in the launch of TiVo, the UK’s first personal video recorder in 2000.

Another highlight to Nick’s career is his six year stint at Natwest where he managed the emerging multimedia unit including designing, delivering and launching the world’s first interactive TV banking service.

Nick joins at a key time in LOVEFiLM’s digital business development; in 2010 the company partnered with digital agency Pushbutton and Widevine digital rights management (DRM) to allow LOVEFiLM to rapidly develop the service’s multi-country, multi-territory and multi-product deployment.

Commenting on the appointment, Lesley Mackenzie, Group Digital Officer at LOVEFiLM said: “Nick has a huge amount of experience in the development and deployment of on demand products, as well as a thorough understanding of the strategy needed to successfully activate such projects. His expertise will be an invaluable addition to LOVEFiLM, especially at this important time of growth for the company’s digital offering”

Nick James, Digital Technical Development Director said: “LOVEFiLM has grown from strength to strength and is changing the way people consume film by creating media firsts such as its launch on connected TVs. LOVEFiLM’s goal is to be available on as many platforms as possible across all territories, so I’m looking forward to being part of its continued development.”
