LOVEFiLM has received a top accolade for its SONY BRAVIA direct-to-TV application at the 2010 International Business Awards, achieving first place in the ‘Best New Product or Service of the Year – Media and Entertainment’ category.
The application, which launched on new SONY BRAVIA internet-enabled devices in March 2010, allows LOVEFiLM members to watch thousands of titles online at no extra cost as part of their existing packages, directly through new SONY BRAVIA Internet Video TVs, Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Theatre kits. Coupled with LOVEFiLM’s postal DVD rental, the resulting hybrid service stood out to judges and marked the company apart from and above any other competitors in the digital entertainment market that entered.
LOVEFiLM also received a Distinguished Honouree medal in the annual awards for its entry into the ‘Most Innovative Company of the Year in Europe’ category. Honourees were selected through two rounds of judging by a global panel of business professionals.
The International Business Awards are the only global, all-encompassing business awards programme honouring outstanding and exemplary performance in business, this year receiving more than 1,700 entries from companies in over 40 countries.
Simon Calver, Chief Executive Officer for LOVEFiLM commented: “Since 2004, LOVEFiLM has become the leading European home entertainment service through postal DVD rental. We have innovated and enhanced that service in 2009/10 by streaming quality content initially to the PC and most recently into customers’ living rooms. We’re delighted to be awarded for our work with SONY, which forms an exciting part of LOVEFiLM’s long term plan to roll out a LOVEFiLM service on as many digital platforms as possible.”
