Role Overview

LOVEFiLM is looking for an exceptional web and application based designer to join our team; reporting to the Head of Design & UX. The role will involve a range of work from short tactical projects, to larger strategic projects redesigning and reshaping LOVEFiLM as a film destination working as part of the Design and User Experience team.

The ideal candidate will be a practical-minded perfectionist with the talent to form a design strategy based on the business and user goals, sketching out the primary interfaces and user flows, creating prototypes, and staying informed on current trends to keep the application or website on the cutting edge of technology and design.

Example projects could be: design new features, enhancement or redesign existing site and mobile application functionality: Sign-up journey, account management, global navigation, search and browse.

It is imperative that the candidate can work to tight deadlines, cope with time pressure and manage the volume of work required. This is a unique opportunity to apply your creativity whilst working with a big entertainment brand.

Essential Skills

  • Design – An outstanding portfolio of user experience design work for web and mobile application. Advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, OmniGraffle and wire framing software (e.g. Axure). An understanding of the issues around web technologies; with the ability to work within tough policies and guidelines.
  • User Experience Design – An appreciation of user centred design and user journeys with confident experience of working with personas, sitemaps, user journeys, wireframes, functional & behaviour specifications and interaction flows and annotation to assist developers.
  • Customer Empathy – The ability to empathize with customers in our target markets; their different values, priorities, perceptions, tolerances and experiences.
  • Creative Thinking – Able to transform creative ideas into practical reality. Can look at existing situations and problems and come up with creative solutions.
  • Planning and Organisation – Must manage time well to meet tight deadlines and able to work under own initiative. An ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
  • Managing relationships and Team Working – Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people. Works co-operatively with others to be part of a team.
  • Resilience – Manages personal effectiveness by managing emotions in the face of pressure, set backs or when dealing with provocative situations. Demonstrates an approach to work that is characterised by commitment, motivation and energy.
  • Flexibility – Adapts and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups. Able to understand and appreciate different and opposing perspectives on an issue, to adapt an approach as the requirements of a situation change, and to change or easily accept changes in one’s own organisation or job requirements.
  • Design Qualifications – A degree in Design, Multi-media, HCI or equivalent qualification.

Desirable Skills

  • Design experience: 3-5 years relevant interactive/digital design experience
  • Media Experience: Background in the media and entertainment industry. Enthusiasm for film
  • Evidence based design: Ability to use analytics, user research or testing to inform design decisions
